According to Second Harvest Food Bank, one in five households in Louisiana is at risk of hunger. Across our state and region, the rising cost of food, housing, and utilities, coupled with high unemployment and low-wage jobs have increased the need for emergency food assistance. Many families are asking for help for the first time. When bills loom and impossible decisions must be made, grocery lists are often cut first. Meals are skipped. Parents go without to make sure their children are fed. In an effort to help fight hunger in Acadiana, members of Steel Magnolias of Acadiana partnered with the Glenn Armentor Law Corporation during their annual Pay It Forward food drive.
Steel Magnolias of Acadiana's Director of Community Service, Adeline Williams stated, "It is our duty to ensure that our friends and neighbors are supplied with some of the basic necessities of life, such as food. It was an honor to participate in this event and help bring awareness to such a growing issue in our community."
The Steel Magnolias plan to continue their partnership with The Glenn Armentor Law Corporation in the future. If you are interested in helping our community fight hunger, please visit www.no-hunger.org for more information.
